  Jeff's World Tour - Project Chevy July 2009 (3)

Been a while since I worked on my truck. Planned to run it at the Street Legal drags a few weeks ago but didn't have a coolant recovery tank or a way to add one quickly so I missed that event. Coming around again on July 17th and I think I'm ready. Got the HEI distributor installed along with new plugs and wires.
There was no fitting to install an overflow tank so I had to attach some copper tubing and run it behind the battery. I hate soldering.

Coolant recovery tank and battery hold-down. Apparently those are important to the folks at the dragstrip...   Installed new plugs and laid all the wires out before I started cutting them to length. Figuring out the best looking way to route the new plug wires.

Took the time to paint up the air cleaner assembly while I was at it Watching the classifieds paid off - got a set of 4 wheels with okay tires on them for $100. Looks a lot better with matching wheels instead of the two stock and two wagon wheels.....I'll probably paint the wheels at some point but no rush.
New HEI unit in place. Had to make a new throttle return spring bracket since the spring used to hook onto the coil bracket.

I still need to throw the timing light on and dial it in. Of course, first I'll have to go buy a timing light - it's been quite some time since I owned anything you could tune....but just setting it by ear it sounds and runs a lot better than it did before the HEI conversion.  I'm guessing from an overall performance standpoint that was a well spent $100 for the new distributor and wires.  Also changed the trans fluid/filter last weekend; it was bad but I've definitely seen worse.
